Being a bit new to this means a bit slow to the punch but that’s how I’ve always rolled. Sebastien at Praized points out the roil over Facebook and Data Portability created recently. Although primarily an apex geek issue there will be a broader community down the line who will be concerned over who owns individual’s identity data. Facebook, Spock, Plaxo, all are engaged in the debate between individual and corporate rights in data. It’s always seemed to me that identity provides a unique opportunity for a trusted Local 2.0 3rd party - your friendly neighborhood Yellow (er, White) Pages company to provide identity “escrow” services if you will. Branded correctly, white pages could position themselves as the champion of portability while finding new revenue opportunities in creative corporate data licensing arrangements. OpenID provides the platform, Espace Perso points in a direction.
