People As Programmers

August 11th, 2008 by admin

I was bouncing around a post on Web 3.0 and reflected a bit on my more juvenile post on this.  I’m throwing my hat into Eric Schmidt’s ring where  Web 3.0 will be people as programmers, mixing and matching their own applications together without the need for “professional help”.  Web 1.0 was about people as consumers, 2.0 about people as producers, and Web 3.0 about people as programmers.  Kind of like Bug Labs let you build your own mix-and-match gadgets, seems like the same will happen with the Web.  The quote I found from Eric was:

My prediction would be that Web 3.0 will ultimately be seen as applications which are pieced together. There are a number of characteristics: the applications are relatively small, the data is in the cloud, the applications can run on any device, PC or mobile phone, the applications are very fast and they’re very customizable.

It’s from the Seoul Digital Forum over a year ago but, hey, I kind of liked my “people as” progression and thought I’d at least post that.  Plus I’ve been downloading all the latest iPhone apps (but don’t understand why I can’t seem to find an international time conversion app).  B)
