Being inherently anti-social makes it difficult for me to understand the appeal of a lot of these new mobile phone applications designed to help you “connect” with other people (which I kind of thought was the purpose of a “phone”). Apps like Loopt and BrightKite that promise to turn your mobile phone into a “social compass” could be anathema to me if I actually had any friends. Still, I imagine there are those that want to “Connect, Share, and Explore” with others. As bart of the whole theme of “Disaggregating IYP” it would be interesting to determine what kind of platform would be necessary to publish into these emerging applications. Generally speaking doing it for one would probably suffice for doing it for all of them so even though they all aren’t going to win there is no big downside for supporting the losers while there is a potential big upside for supporting the whole field. porting the whole field.
